who i am
My name is Alex Mikes and In Bloom Recording is the name of my audio services.
I remember the first time I used a cassette recorder, I got a Talk Boy after the movie "Home Alone" had just come out. I thought it was the coolest thing, that I had the power to record audio. That I could preserve sound, forever in time. It wasn't something reserved for the multi-platinum recording artists, it was something I could do. That fascination has never left me, and I've learned to harness my creativity and the power of recording technology and use them to help people create the music that they want to be preserved, forever in time.
When I first started recording music on multi track recorders, at first it really demystified the process. I thought, "oh this isn't so hard." But the more I did it, and the more tracks I was able to use and the more instruments I could mix in, the more it seemed like something was missing. Why were some recordings so great? Sure, the content was a huge factor. But there was something else besides the music, something was different about some of the albums I heard. I wanted to know what it was.
I moved to San Francisco to attend Pyramind Institute, a school for audio production. It was there that I learned the skills I needed to record music, but only through my experiences of recording music have I learned the skills I needed to help make great recordings. After completing school, I got a job at the Academy of Art University as a recording technician. I also got an internship at the world class Studio Trilogy, where I progressed to an assistant engineer and began bringing my own clients to record there. I'm grateful for the experience I get to have every time I walk through the door of that facility.
In the summer of 2011 I moved to Los Angeles. It was sad to leave San Francisco for many reasons, but an exciting prospect to be in Los Angeles.

I cover almost all audio related tasks. Although I specialize in recording and mixing music, I also do audio post-production for tv, video games and film.
