audio recording and editing for an immigration lawyer

I was contacted by a lawyer who works with low income people who are trying to gain citizenship in the United States. He had A LOT of work for me to do. He was a very creative man who was very passionate about helping his cleints in any way he could. So most of the work we did together was to help people, which was a really nice treat.

We did a lot of projects together, and most of them were random audio and video related tasks that he had for me. But a few of them were really big projects that were very time consuming and tested all of my skills, especially since I don't work with video very often.

One of the projects that we did was a video compilation that included scanning 100 flash cards, front and back, that were issued by the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) and combining them into a video with the english recordings from the USCIS website and the translation into 5 other languages that I recorded, edited and compiled into one video for each language. As you can see in the example, for each language the woman would read the question in english, and then one of the talented bilingual translators that I got to work with would read the question in whatever language they were recording, and then it continued on to the answer in english and then the translated language. We did all 100 questions and answers in this way in 5 languages: Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish and Urdu.

In addition to the 100 questions with the flash cards, we also did a text only video of a mock interview that is meant to help prepare the clients for what an actual interview with an immigration officer will be like. A video expample is provided for that below, also. So for example, the officer would ask a question in english and the text on the screen would be in english, and then the translator would read the same question in whatever language we were recording and the text on the screen would be in the corresponding language. We did 4 languages for this video: Arabic, French, Italian and Spanish.

With literally thousands of files to organize and over a year spent recording, editing and compiling these projects, they were a great opportunity for me to hone my skills while helping others gain citizenship to this great country I choose to call home.
